At 13 I started piercing my brothers and myself traditionally to mark our bodies for the month of perforation, which in my culture commemorated hardships and celebrated honorable accomplishments. We shed blood to heal, and we change our appearances to match our souls—this is what I want to share with my clients. Whether it’s just for decorative reasons, piercing your body defines you just a little bit more and seeing the change piercings have had on my clients is just the best. Eventually after tattooing for a while, I was asked if I wanted to learn to pierce professionally and I put my all into it. In the short year that I’ve been doing this, I have heard so many stories, seen the happiest cries, cleaned off tears and blood, and I have gotten to see first hand just how unique humans can be—body and all. I started at Black Filigree full of hope and since then, my life has just been getting better and better.
